Why Earn a HSE?

Obtaining a High School Equivalency diploma is the gateway to new beginnings, new opportunities and new ways to view yourself and what is possible. It can help you start a new life at work and at home.

One study showed that a high school dropout who obtains a High School Equivalency diploma could see an income rise of 43 percent. Graduates make an average of $385,000 more in their lifetime than people without. That’s a raise of $12,000 a year for most people.

A High School Equivalency diploma becomes more lucrative when the student goes on to college. The average income for college graduates is $44,000, more than double the income of people who haven’t graduated high school.

Two Years of Tuition and Fees Paid in Full for HSE Graduates

Students who earn a High School Equivalency diploma at SCC and committed to earning a college degree or a Workforce Continuing Education credential, and have proven themselves in the classroom, can apply for the HSE Scholars Program. Provided will be two full years of tuition and fees to earn a college degree or a WCE credential. Eligibility begin the semester after the final HSE test and will end six consecutive semesters later. SCC HSE graduates not qualifying for the program are eligible to receive a $250 scholarship to use at Sandhills within one year.
