5.5 Veterans Preference

Board of Trustee Approval: August 6, 2007
Revised: October 1, 2012; October 1, 2022

Recognizing that sacrifices are made by those serving in the Armed Forces, State and Federal laws have been enacted to prevent veterans seeking employment from being penalized because of the time spent in military service.

By law, veterans who are disabled or who served on active duty in the Armed Forces during certain specified time periods (for reasons other than training) or in military campaigns are entitled to preference over non-veterans both in hiring from competitive lists of eligible candidates and in retaining during reduction in force.
